To All Lake Athens Property Owners,
As we all know, aquatic vegetation has become a huge problem on Lake Athens. To that end, the Lake Athens Property Owners Association (LAPOA) began working in earnest on this issue in 2017. Through the efforts of LAPOA, the first ever wide-spread treatment of aquatic vegetation was allowed in 2017. Although the results were inconsistent, and generally not satisfactory, much was learned.
LAPOA formed a committee to work on this issue, and our committee, along with County Commissioner Ken Geeslin, AMWA Executive Director Bill Casey, and several fishermen, has reached an agreement with TPWD regarding the treatment of aquatic vegetation for 2018. We believe the plan will be much more effective than the 2017 effort.
One major difference is that TPWD is not going to allow group permits or treatment. Every property owner who wishes to treat their shoreline will have to obtain their own permit and hire their own applicator. To this end, our vegetation committee is going to conduct a brief seminar to explain the plan and TO LEAD YOU THROUGH THE PERMITTING PROCESS. Our committee believes that it is complex enough to warrant this effort.
PLEASE MARK YOU CALENDARS FOR SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 17th, 1-3 PM, AT THE HART-MORRIS CONSERVATION CENTER OF TFFC, 5601 CR 4812 (PENINSULA POINT RD).
This seminar will be for LAPOA members only. If you are not a member, you may join online by visiting the Members page of our website (https://www.lapoa.org/?p=324), or at the door. To save time and avoid the long lines, we encourage you to join online prior to the meeting.
The more of your neighbors that treat their shoreline, the better your area will be, so please spread the word and encourage them to attend the meeting.
