Benefits of Membership:

The first bullet in our mission statement is “Maintaining a network that enables communication, and disseminates relevant information in a timely manner.” The first and foremost benefit of membership in LAPOA is becoming a part of our communication network.

The last couple of years have shown that there is a lot going on around Lake Athens, both in the way of community matters important to Lake Athens property owners (the Athens Municipal Water Authority (AMWA) vs. the City of Athens conflict, potential development activities around the marina, etc.), as well as social activities. We believe that keeping our members informed of these happenings is a primary responsibility. The most efficient and effective method of accomplishing this is through this website, Facebook and the use of direct emails to our members.

Floating and Fellowship

The second bullet in our mission statement is “Building community and unity through social events relevant to lake life.” Many of the things we communicate to our members are announcements about, and invitations to, social activities happening around the lake. Some examples are sailing and rowing regattas, flotillas, the 4th of July Boat Parade, Fireworks at the Fisheries, dock dinner parties, the Bluegill Family Fishing Tournament at TFFC, and our annual Lake Athens Property Owners weekend and annual members meeting.

Registration:

Because our website contains some members-only content, registration on lapoa.org is restricted to those who are already members of LAPOA or those who are applying for membership. If you are applying for membership, the following paragraphs describe the two types of membership we offer. Which membership type you might be eligible for is based upon whether or not you are required to pay ingress and egress fees to AMWA for use of their property (i.e., property below 448 feet MSL) that adjoins your property (i.e., property above 448 feet MSL).

Voting Membership:

If you are a Lake Athens area property owner who IS required to pay ingress and egress fees directly to the Athens Municipal Water Authority (AMWA) (commonly known as a lakefront property owner), you are eligible for membership in LAPOA as a Voting Member. This level of membership includes the right to vote in Board of Director elections and any other matters brought before the membership, as well as to serve on the Board of Directors.

Social Membership:

If you are a Lake Athens area property owner who is NOT required to pay ingress and egress fees to AMWA (commonly known as a non-lakefront property owner), you are eligible for membership in LAPOA as a Social Member. This level of membership includes all the benefits and privileges of membership in the Association, with the exception of the voting rights and ability to serve on the Board of Directors.

LAPOA Dues are $50 per family for the period January 1st through December 31st of each year.
