Athens Municipal Water Authority

AMWA WebsiteThe Athens Municipal Water Authority (AMWA) is the Lake Athens Reservoir Controlling Authority, and is the creator and owner of Lake Athens and surrounding property up to an elevation of 448 feet above mean sea level.  AMWA has operational and regulatory jurisdiction over this property.

Those of us who are “lakefront” property owners actually only own the property above the 448 foot elevation line.  For the privilege of using, and the responsibility of maintaining, the property from the 448 foot elevation line down to the waterfront (440 foot elevation line at full pool), we pay an Ingress/Egress fee to AMWA.  A more detailed explanation of these fees can be found here.
