Removing Lakefront Weeds

Got annoying weeds along your shoreline? We can’t legally put chemicals in the water to kill them, but there might be another solution.

During the Annual Members Meeting on June 14th, 2014, one member asked that question. There were two other members who recommended the same product, the “Weed Razer” by Jenlis Inc. Although LAPOA does not endorse products, these two member families who own it and had used it had high praise for it. Jenlis’ website homepage is http://www.weedrazers.com/.

The Weed Razer has two 32 inch blades which, after assembly, provide a 48 inch cutting swath. Its handle is 65 inches long and comes with 25 feet of rope to allow throwing and retrieving. It weighs less than eight pounds. The company states that average assembly time is about 15 minutes and an online instructional video covering assembly is available on the product’s web page. The video runs just under nine minutes.

Weighing in at less than nine pounds, the Weed Razer Pro also has two 32 inch blades, but it features an adjustment mechanism that allows the cutting swath to be adjusted from 12 inches to 62 inches wide. This product’s specification page states that it comes pre-assembled with the same 65 inch long handle and 25 feet of rope.

The company also offers the Weed Raker. The Weed Raker has a four section handle that snaps together giving the user up to 11 feet of reach and comes with 43 feet of rope. With a weight of less than seven pounds, the company claims that it is light enough to toss 55 feet away.

The company also bundles the Weed Razers and Weed Rakers together.

Also, there is a smaller, apparently discontinued model called the Weed Razer Express that is available on Amazon and perhaps other sources. According to the description on Amazon.com, it is a six pound model with a 30 inch cutting swath. No other details were listed.

As always, you should do your own research and decide for yourself whether any of these products satisfy your needs. If you decide to purchase one of these products, PLEASE pay attention to all of the safety warnings provided on the company’s website and the literature accompanying the product. The blades on these products are apparently indeed razors and should not be handled without heavy leather gloves.

Good luck and good weeding!
